Bangladeshi Style Giant Prawns
20 mins prepServes 4
A luxurious, onion-forward seafood delicacy featuring giant freshwater prawns in a rich spicy gravy. This Bangladeshi style 'Do Pyaza' preparation highlights the deliciousness of prawns enhanced with a blend of spices and aromatic ingredients.
1: Trim the sharp points from the prawns' head and tail, remove the legs and vein, and rinse and pat dry.
2: Marinate prawns with salt, turmeric, mustard oil, and cayenne red chili powder. Fry in a hot pan until the shells turn bright red, then remove and set aside.
3: In the same pan, sauté sliced onions and green chilies for 2 minutes. Add onion paste, ginger paste, and garlic paste; cook until fragrant.
4: Add cayenne (red chili powder), paprika, turmeric, cumin, and salt. Stir in the tomato puree, ketchup, and nut paste with water. Cover and cook until the oil separates from the masala.
5: Return the prawns to the pan. Add a splash of water if you prefer more gravy. Simmer for 3–5 minutes until the prawns are tender and the sauce is thick.
6: Garnish with fresh cilantro and extra green chilies. Serve hot with warm rice.
